Thinking ahead to warm, lazy summer days and evenings spent on the patio?

Landscaping your garden is the ideal way for you to design a practical layout that will let you enjoy your garden exactly how you want it. However, before you start digging, there are a few things you need to consider.

Where do you start when landscaping a garden?

  • Research: Think about what you want to achieve and be realistic. Take inspiration from garden centres, magazines, websites and friends’ gardens. Sketch your ideas out and formulate a plan.
  • Consider the ecological factors: How much sun does your garden get? Identify your garden’s hot spots for patios and flower bed placement.
  • Budget: it’s all too easy to start adding things over time so plan your landscaping budget at the start and try to stick to it.
Garden Design - Planning your garden

Now you have a plan on paper, consider the tools you’ll need to make it happen. If you’re an avid gardener, you probably already have a lot of the tools needed to help bring your vision to life. However, you might be missing the right light construction machinery which could make your project both easier and safer.

The Ground Rules: Selecting the right Light Construction Machinery

Landscaping your garden or creating a patio is hard work but, with the right tools, you can lighten the load.

Compactor Plate, Wacker Plate

Compactor Plate

Firstly, you’ll need to prepare the ground with a Compactor Plate (or Wacker plate, as otherwise known). This will compact and level your hardcore via the vibrating plate. Look for a compact machine with a hefty compaction force, which is also easy to manoeuvre, such as the Petrol Compactor. It’s also a good idea to opt for a machine that features comfortable handles which can alleviate unwanted strain on your muscles.

Cement Mixer

Next, you’ll need a concrete mixer but before you decide, you’ll need to consider the size of your project and which power source works best for you. For small-to-medium tasks, it’s best to consider a concrete mixer that is small enough to be easily moved and repositioned. It’s also worth considering the durability of the drum – the last thing you need is to be dealing with an unwieldy concrete mixer!

For small-to-medium scale projects, the Electric Cement Mixer combines a rapid 26.6rpm rotation speed with a 125-litre hopper, so you can expect superior productivity; and it benefits from a control-wheel-operated, 360-degree swivel mechanism to achieve multiple pouring-angles.

Transporter, Dump Truck

Petrol Mini Transporter

Lastly, whilst most of us have a standard wheelbarrow stored away in the shed, a mini transporter – or mini petrol power wheelbarrow (mini dumper) as it’s commonly referred to – is a must! Essentially a power barrow, mini transporters such as the Petrol Mini Transporter are designed to take the strain out of heavy-duty transportation jobs and are ideal for moving any raw materials such as: heavy paving slabs, rocks, gravel, soil, and sand.

Running on high-grip caterpillar tracks, the tracked dumper can breeze its way up and across the sort of sharp inclines and rugged terrain that would prove all too much for its wheeled counterpart.

Light Construction Range

Once you’ve done your research, laying a patio or landscaping a garden doesn’t have to be a difficult job. Forget about getting a builder in, you’ve got this! As well as giving you a greater deal of control over budget and construction, with the right tools for the job, creating your perfect haven can be a satisfying experience.
